My life in the past couple of years has been crazy to say the least. Even by looking back on the small amount of entries I wrote on this blog and my other blogs, I can remember all the whirlwind moments that have been taking me for a ride.
This past weekend I took another journey that would, in the past, bring on a full force anxiety attack. However, since I have been focused on the NOW as much as possible through affirmations, positive thinking, personal development, meditation and other resources, I was able to take it easy.
Last Friday I woke up with what felt like just nausea. As I was getting ready for work it then changed over to a severe pain in my upper abdomen. It was accompanied by a headache, shortness of breath and feeling lightheaded.
I had no idea what was going on and called my mom – who is a nurse – for recommendations. She told me to go to the ER.
I called 911 and rode in the ambulance to the hospital. I was in the ER with tests, ultrasounds, blood drawls, etc and they found out that a gallstone had gotten stuck in the duct and was causing an infection.
A few years back I had been told I had gallstones and offered optional surgery, I had refused and was told it may be something in my future regardless.
Well the ultrasound this time showed that my gallbladder was half full (which my surgeon later said it was actually FULL) of stones and my only option to prevent this from happening again was to have my gallbladder removed. I prayed and meditated on it as best I could (laying in an ER bed full of pain meds & antibiotics) before making the decision to go through with it.
On Saturday I had the surgery and was able to go home the next day (Sunday) because they were able to do laparoscopic surgery (3 small incisions and 1 in my belly button) instead of the more invasive old school style one which many people take weeks or even months to recover from.
Almost a week later I am feeling much better, but there is still a sharp pain behind my belly button which my surgeon said is common during the healing process. It makes it difficult to sleep because I usually sleep on my stomach but had to learn to sleep on my back or side. Also, bending or reaching causes pain because of it being right in my midsection. He gave me an extra week off of work so that I can prevent getting a hernia **shivers** which I PREFER NOT TO HAVE THANK YOU
Also, right above my belly button is still super swollen. The area around the incisions were at first so swollen that my first couple of days at home, I could not tell if I was hungry or not I constantly had a “full” feeling”. I am praying that it heals up in no time and I can go back to work.
I live a very blessed life and continue to be reminded of it. No matter what goes “wrong”, there is always something better around the corner.
